For those of you who don't know the engineer world (which I wouldn't if my husband was not in it) it is seriously pretty much stupid how things work. You have to got to college to get an engineering degree, which of course is a major accomplishment in and of itself but that's not enough. In order for you to call yourself an "engineer" and put it on your business cards and such there are only two ways that it can go. 1.) You work for a Professional Engineer and so you can then put "engineer" as your title (which to most of the world would think that means you are an engineer, little do they know you are just riding on the heels of someone who really is, and you don't even have to have a college degree much less a college engineering degree) or 2.) You take the test and become one yourself. The test is by APPROVAL and RECOMMENDATION ONLY. That means you can't just take the test if you feel like it. Also, you have to be out of college for at LEAST 4 years before you can even think about taking the test. Then after you get approved to take it, have other P.E.'s send in referrals you get to study your rear off, and spend major money (like 4 figures) to take the test and hope like Hell you pass it. So for all those business cards you see where people have "engineer" listed as their job title, that is great and all but they aren't a ENGINEER. When you see Josh Luig, P.E., that means ENGINEER.
